About me... my name is Ken, I live just
north of Detroit and work in the wonderful
automotive field as a Seat Belt Engineer.
I've been into Jeeps for ~15 years, I
started out with a Hot Rod in high school
(a 68 GTO which I must say was fast and a
lot of fun), but when I went off to
college @ Ferris State, I got my first
taste of off roading, the rest is
History... My first 4x4 was a brand new
Black 1991 Z-71 short bed with bucket
seats, I put a body lift on it and took it
to the Silver Lake Sand Dunes as often as
I could. Then I moved into full size
Blazers, which I had many, a few 79's, a
sweet 72, a 89 and maybe a few others.
Also, in that same time frame I got my
first Boat a 16' "Baysinker"
Capri Bowrider and a Quad, Suzuki 230
Quadsport, We had many of good times on
Lake St.Clair with the boat and would head
up to Gladwin to ride the Quads. I got
hooked on the Gladwin trails and ended up
buying a cabin near Secord Lake. Then one
day up north near West Branch, just north
of the cabin, I found a 1967 CJ5 at a used
car dealer, as the story went, it had been
used by a Buick dealership in Flint MI for
most of it's life as a parts runner. It
didn't have a top and was filled with pine
needles but it seemed pretty solid and
everything worked except the brakes. So I
bought it for $1100. One thing to note: I
had just got married several months before
this, and I hadn't learned that you need
to discuss (aka: ask permission) purchases
of this nature with your better half, I
still hear about this from time to time.
Well anyway, that's when the Jeep bug bit
me. I then moved onto a 77 CJ-7 with a
304, got some paddle tires and again took
that to Silver Lake. Years latter I had my
72 Blazer at the Dunes and some guy with a
beautiful 67 CJ-5, it was from Colorado
and just perfect, wanted to trade me, so I
did and I still have it to this day, 12
years latter...
Currently I have 6
Jeeps, The 67 CJ-5 Dauntless, SM-420
4:88's, Warn O/D from Colorado. My DD is a
97 TJ 4 banger, The 92 YJ, as seen in my
write up about the rear bucket seat
conversion, was purchased as a temporary
rig while I upgrade the 67's suspension.
Also, I have a 55 Willy's wagon which will
someday be restored. A 70 CJ5 (referred to
as the "Jack***") with a
dauntless, plow and Half cab and rear PTO
winch, used for obviously plowing snow or
whatever else needs plowing. And last, I
have a (multi-year) CJ-7 with a 4.2,
T-400, D-300, D-30/D-44 Axles that I am
working on in my spare time to sell and
maybe make a few $'s...
