JEEP HISTORY
Have always wanted a CJ7 like my neighbor
growing up. Never found interest in the
later models, call me sentimental with
Dukes of Hazard being a fave of mine (the
original). I finally saved up some
deployment money and was determined to
find a hard top CJ7 with manual
transmission. I wish I had done more
homework. I bought a rust bucket and now
I have determined I need a new tub... If I
was more confident in my welding ability,
I would patch the sucker up, but the floor
behind the front seats is about to go
where the roll bar and the seatbelts are
fastened to the floor. So another saving
project. I keep missing opportunities on
tubs on Craigslist. If you all hear about
a tub for sale, please pass the word.
When i first took the "Heep"
home, it ran like a champ with the EFI
upgrade (Gen 1) but I soon found that the
Heep had been severely neglected. As a
third owner, I guess that can be expected.
The frame was straight, so I was happy
until I started fixing things. The first
tune up was ugly. The previous owner only
used it for hunting and didn't care for it
too well. I tried fluching the radiator
only to blow the picock right out of it
needing a replacement radiator right off
the bat... i guess better than finding out
out on the trail. Then shipping it up to
Boston from NC someone took a crowbar to
the driver door and damaged the guts so
the door was damaged, ripped the seatbelt
and scarred up the hard top. No love from
the shipping company either. Then the
Mufler and Cat went, almost catching fire
on the trail... the Heep has become a
money pit but I still love her. So now I
will be making my step by step plans to
rebuild the Heep just need to pick a place
to start. Any input is welcome.
