JEEP HISTORY
Bought my first Jeep, cuz it didn't look
like somethin that needed to be
"fixed up." And it didn't, until
I found a new website called JeepForum.com
and the rest is history...very expensive
history.

Hey, Seth,

When you get your rack, let me know. I have some tips about assembling it, and I know of light brackets that should fit. Just to let you know though, with the floor bars going crosswise (which make tying things down real easy), it creates a lot of wind noise. That's why I take mine off until I'm going to use it. That also keeps it out of the weather.

About your rattle: Could it be that it was rattling when you were in the dirt, but with all of the other noises you just didn't notice it? Here's something else to check: your transmission mount. Some guy on JF recently kept hearing a hard and heavy yet occasional bang and couldn't figure it out. Then after a LONG time of searching he found that his transmission mount was missing bolts.

Keep in touch. This Jeep stuff is fun, no matter how old your are. I'm 57 going on 35.

Hi, Seth,

The ROLA worked GREAT on my 100-mile trek through the Mojave Desert on Easter weekend. But I WAY overpacked for the trip with over 300 pounds of gear inside, 100 pounds of tools, and 180 pounds on my roof. Rack - 40#; empty tire (with a plywood floor and cover)- 45#; jack stands, wheel chocks, 2"X10"X12" blocks - 25#; 10 gallons of gas - 70#. And I never needed the gas. When I packed I made a list of everything I took. After I returned I noted everything I would not take again. I bottomed out the rear suspension MANY times. But I made it and it was a blast. I've removed the rack and put it into storage, and will throw it back on the next time I need it. I had to cut off 1/2" from the attaching "U-bolts" because they stuck up above the floor of the rack, and would have worn holes in my gas cans. Overall, though, the rack was a big success. The main lessons I learned were: 1. Carry less weight. 2. Carry the weight lower. 3. Carry the weight farther forward.

What have you been up to?

Jay
