| kyle1228 10/17/2009 11:02 PM Ah, yes, that's where you got me.
I live in California, where this
is no snow at all. So, having a
metal tub is just perfect. Plus,
all the wheeling I do is hardcore
rock ******, so it gets messed up
all the time. |
|
| | kyle1228 10/17/2009 12:38 PM If I were you, I'd scrap that
fiberglass body, and get a full
metal tub. The fiberglass one's
just break way to easily, :/.
And yes, I still have many plans
to come. I guess you would say
it's a never ending project. I'm
actually saving up for ARB's front
& rear w/ the compressor, which
will run at about ..$2,500. Ouch,
I know ..and, at some point in
time, buy a winch w/ a new front
bumper. But, money runs it all. |

| | kyle1228 10/17/2009 12:19 PM You have the same exact Jeep I
used to have! I have a 1978 CJ5,
But I've since then gotten rid of
the 3-speed, and did the whole one
piece conversion in the back. And,
I have 4.88's, with a trutrac
locker in the front. By the way,
I'm pretty sure your ratio is
3.54, that's what I had in mine. |

| | CJsCJ 03/31/2009 4:50 PM Yea this is one heck of a project!
Thats for sure. Im just heading
out to the garage to do some last
minute frame grinding and cleaning
up the rough metal. We're
prepping it to weld on our new
frame channels. After that im
installing a tuff country 2.5"
suspension lift. Then moving to
the front end im going to rebuild
the steering box and do what ever
else needs to be done on the front
end. ive neglected the front up
till now and we've been focusing
on the rear. Hook up the new 2.5"
suspension in the front. Small
engine rebuild and then ready to
drop the new YJ body on. The CJ
front clip in compatible with the
YJ tub and i picked up a rust free
tub for a killer of a deal. 1"
body lift and paint and then the
interior. Theres more to it haha
as with any frame up build but
theres the basics! FUN fun! so is
this your Yellow CJ5? HOw big are
your shackles??

| | Birdog 03/24/2009 1:58 PM BCAT: What color? Black?
Plans for my son's CJ. Interesting
question. Its all in pieces in my
garage. I'm sure your Dad can
relate! But, on my boys budget...2
1/2" spring lift, 1" body lift,
1" shackle lift. Maybe 33" tires.
Headers, no CAT, cross overs with
cutouts in front of rear tires,
holley carb. And all the rest of
the glitter that makes it cool.
Summer driver only no top. Check
my son out on the CJ site under
CJ'sCJ. Leave him a coment. Ask
him, he can go on for hours.

| | Birdog 03/23/2009 11:26 AM BCAT: Glad you got the stickers.
My son is doing a '83 CJ7. Bought
it behind a barn in the dark. It
was swiss cheese rusted bucket of
rusted bolts. Got body off and
putting on a YJ tub with CJ hood
and front end. Good luck on the
family project. Birdog |
