JEEP HISTORY
In 1972, my first Jeep was a 2 x 4 mail
Jeep, if you can call it a Jeep. I
switched the steering from the right hand
to the left, including the brakes. It had
an auto transmission. I added and extra
leaf in the rear springs, rear mud grips,
and a super winch. It was used for camping
and at the deer camp. It wasn't made for
getting off the pavement. I kept it for 10
months and then sold it. In 1975, my
second Jeep was a CJ-3B. It was was poorly
modified and I brought it back to original
as closely as I could afford. I replace
blown head gaskets and replaced some other
old and worn out part and belts, built new
floor pans, camo painted it, repaired the
old aluminum top and built and added a tow
bar to haul it to the camp in S. Arkansas
from Lafayette, LA. Kept it two years and
sold it to someone who could afford to
restore it. In 1980, I bought a new
CJ-5. I kept it original and sold it after
4 years to pay bills in the boom gone bust
in 1983, it was a sad day. In 2007, I
bought a used 2002 Jeep Sahara and have
kept it original, but added a Kargo Rack
for hauling trim and lumber for my
construction business. I plan a lift and
adding bigger tires and a winch. As I
said, I'm a builder and times are bad for
residential construction, so improvements
are on hold for now.
