This is my first/only Jeep. When I bought
it three years ago it was a stock 2000
Jeep Wrangler Sahara with an automatic.
Like a lot of Jeep TJ owners out there, I
had oil pressure issues with mine.
Specifically the oil pressure would drop
to zero at an idle when the engine was
warm. I started out with what seemed most
obvious, the sending unit, then the pump.
I read a lot on owners putting a lot into
their engines to fix this problem without
success. For this reason, my Jeep marked
for me the beginning of a more advanced
understanding of mechanics (having only
done small things before); I read up,
purchased a low-mile engine (same year,
size) out of a wrecked Jeep, bought some
tools that I didn't have, called a buddy
of mine, and replaced the engine. Runs
like a champ now, and I found that I very
much enjoy mechanical work (up to this
point the most advanced mechanical work I
had done is the replacement of a water
pump and alternator). I have since had
installed a Rough Country 4 inch
suspension lift, put on 33 inch Toyo MTs,
and bedlined the tub (myself).
