JEEP HISTORY
In 2006 I bought an '83 CJ-7 with a
straight body, nice original paint and a
good engine, but it needed a lot of TLC.
I've replaced just about everything from
seats to gauges, and added a nice Alpine
head unit with JL Audio amps and Polk
marine-grade speakers. From a
low-mileage '91 YJ donor I transplanted
the steering column (and got all the YJ
switches working), as well as full carpet
and other goodies. I also replaced my
manual brakes with the power brakes from
the YJ. I acquired a CJ hard top with
steel doors over the winter of 2011. I
finally got this reinforced, sanded,
painted and reinstalled by October
2012. In March 2011 the head gasket
blew so I went ahead and upgraded to the
4.0 head w/full MPFI setup, and a
stainless Dorman header. In November
2012 I upgraded the suspension with a YJ
conversion using OME springs. This
resulted in about 2.5" of lift. At
the beginning of 2015 I changed the
gearing from the original 2.73 (automatic
trans) to 3.54. I've now got a nice
retro-mod daily driver that will also
serve as occasional off-road and hunting
vehicle.
