JEEP HISTORY
This is my second Jeep. My first was a
1986 XJ with a 2.5 tbi, a 5-spd and
Command Trac. Bought this one in 2006
with 109,000 miles and as of today,
October 23, 2015, it has 242,776 miles on
the clock. It's been a good rig but
there's a disconcerting noise developing
in the engine bay, a noise that appears as
the engine warms up and is reminiscent of
an old D8 Caterpillar at idle and when
first accelerating. This noise has proven
difficult to track down; could be anything
from a belt driven accessory to a cracked
flex plate (or loose fp bolts). My
mechanic says it's the catalytic
converter, but I am not convinced.
Someone else says it's definitely rod
knock, but if that's true would this
condition have lasted this long without
spitting a rod through the block, given
the fact that I've been driving it with
the noise for about four months now? Only
time will tell. Maybe I'd better sell it
before the engine blows up.
