JEEP HISTORY
Bought my totally stock, rust free, 1989
red soft top YJ in 2000. It was not
running and I did not have much money. But
after about 6 months of constant work, but
not spending too much money, it was on the
road. Except for the winch, it was still
stock. Since then I have extensively
modified it to fit my needs. Not much on
this Jeep has not been replaced or
modified. Not to brag but I'm kind of
proud that I have done all the work
myself, except welding. Not bad for a 68
year old guy! My build is based upon an
expedition model. It's not a rock crawler.
Because I wanted to keep the center of
gravity low, I kept the lift moderate. I
try make up the lack of lift with many
skid plates. It works well but it's still
not a crawler. I have created a lot of
storage to support long trips. It has a
full roof rack and custom clamps for
Pelican waterproof cases. I carry four
Jerry cans, two for gas and two for water.
With the lockers, winch and low gears, it
goes pretty much anywhere I want to go.
Current miles is about 80K. It is good
on the highway which is very important to
me since this Jeep is never trailered.
Also, I tow a small (2000 lbs.) camping
trailer when I want to stay in an RV camp
ground. I carry an ARB freezer/fridge
which I truly love.
