Always had a fascination with off-roading
but stuck with drag racing and fast cars
but after I graduated HS '05 had some time
to figure out my next car since I had a
suspended license. Decided I wanted to get
into off-roading so picked up a cheap 4wd
91 explorer in '06 which i beat the crap
out of and I knew it wouldnt last so
finally picked up my '89 YJ Wrangler in
'07. It was in pretty good condition with
new tires, soft top, and rhino lined tub
covered by carpet. Only problem was it
only got about 7mpg. Wanted to swap the
motor so figured I might as well go fuel
injected and then thought about doing a
one off so me and my dad figured it all
out when we got a hold of a '99 mustang
3.8l V6 which set the path. I decided if I
am doing the motor might as well do
everything else all at once so in '08
picked up a daily driver and put the jeep
in the garage for the next 14 months. We
swapped the motor to the 3.8l V6 attached
to an A.O.D. auto transmission shifted by
a B&M Megashifter, and followed with a
BorgWarner 1356 mechanical transfer case.
We spliced together parts of jeep harness
with the mustang harness and had the
computer chipped and burned by Dynotune
performance. Once that was done we tackled
the light with a 4" Rough Country
susp. lift and 3" body lift which all
sat comfortable on Interco 33x13.5x15
LTB/TSL's mounted on 15x10 Cragar V5 black
wheels. Lastly I had to tackle the
interior and accessories. I re did the
herculiner for the inside and hecrulined
the bottom half of the exterior. I got
some diamond and custom made a CJ style
dash with a Nordskog 6 gauge digital gauge
panel, Sony CDX-81UW deck covered by a
waterproof bubble,and 6.5" Kicker
comp marine speakers and 1" tweeters
with crossovers. I kept the stock rear
seats but mounted som APC racing seats on
the factory brackets and kept it all
covered with a new Bestop Sunrider Top. I
swapped in an Optima yellow top to power
it all. Lastly i swapped out the center
console with a VDP console which i
modified the sunglass holder into a switch
panel to control the new KC lights and the
futre off-road lights I will be mounting.
For future i am planning coil-conversion
susp kit, bigger tires, snorkel, custom
mount rear speakers, sub, amplifier,
tubular diamond plate fenders, custom
front and rear bumpers with front and rear
XRC8 winches mounted, front Dana 44 swap,
rear Ford 8.8 swap, modified roll bar, and
new front seats. As you can tell I don't
plan on getting rid of her.
