This is my first Jeep owned. A good
friend of mine has owned many Jeeps, and
he suggested the Compass for my wife and
I.

My wife drives our Jeep Compass to and from work daily,
and she takes the city's perimeter highway. I had
considered getting a hood protector of some sort, but
being on the frugal side, I chose not too. Well, after
giving the Jeep some extra care during a wash, I
noticed a paint chip. On top of that, I noticed the
metal has surface rust, and is climbing upward through
the paint. It's no one's fault but my own to have not
seen it sooner and done something about it, but, such
is life.
Luckily for me, I have a friend who does body work as a
career and will take care of it for me for a case of
beer and a friendly handshake. In the meantime, I
splurged and picked up a hood deflector from the
dealership.

Not the best looking item to add, but it's functional
and doesn't look bad on our particular Jeep since the
paint is black. Installation is a breeze too, so long
as you're careful. You're asked to drill four hole
under the hood using a 15/16 bit. If you apply too
much pressure while drilling, and accidentally pop
through, you'll dent the other side - the visible side.
As luck had it, so such accidents occurred and I ended
up with a clean installation. When I do the repair for
the paint chip, I will be removing the deflector and
painting the drilled out holes too, since I now have
bare metal there as well (sort of).
So take it from me. If you do lots of highway
traveling, you might want to consider protecting your
paint. Or at the very least, pay more attention to
those inevitable paint chips!...
