JEEP HISTORY
I bought my first Jeep when I was 19, it
was a 1995 Wrangler Rio Grande. I did the
usual 4" suspension lift and 33s,
then the 4 cylinder didn't have any guts
(as if it did before). Yanked out the 4
popper in favor of a fairly healthy Chevy
350 with TH350 trans and a HD NP231C
transfer case. I built a custom aluminum
dash with autometer gauges, had all the
stainless trim on the outside. Then I sold
it.... That was in 2004, and I'm still
kicking myself for that. 3 months later, I
bought my current '84 CJ7. It had an AMC
360 and T176 trans with a Dana 300, and
stock axles. It already had a 4"
suspension lift and 33s. The 360 didn't
last long, due to the incurable low oil
pressure problem they're plagued with. I
built a decent little Chevy 383 stroker to
put in, and at the time kept the 4 speed.
Was deployed to Iraq, then when I returned
home, I installed Chevy 3/4 ton axles,
Corporate 10 front and Corporate 14 rear.
Had it on 40/17 Ground Hawgs. Soon got
into mud racing, then decided that trying
to race with the T176 was impossible.
Installed a very cheap 700r4 that I found,
it lasted for almost a whole race season.
Pitched the 700 in the dumpster in favor
of the TH350 trans that's in it now. Also
traded out the 3/4 ton axles for some
lighter weight 1/2 tons, and now it's on
38.5x11 Boggers. Now that's all this Jeep
knows, is going fast.
