JEEP HISTORY
Was a Scout lover (white '78 Traveler),
then it got sold. Bought an XJ, and it
still looks like I'm driving a
refrigerator with wheels.

LATEST BLOG ENTRY
03/17/2008

First off, I’m creating a blog because Keith wants us too. Since I’m a lemming, I’ll do what he asks.

I think, after much deliberation, that I’m going to use this space to keep a tally of how many times I’ve almost been involved in an accident on the road during a 24-hour period by the incredibly stupid drivers here in AZ. Yes, there’s a reason as to why we have the highest insurance rates in the country.

Anyway, today they’ve only tried to kill me once! That’s a record; usually it’s at least three times within one mile of each other. This morning, it was a someone in a Honda Pilot. Male or female, I couldn’t tell because of the window tint. Road construction had narrowed the three-lane street I was on to the center lane only. I was in the far right lane, and threw on my blinker to merge left into the center, well ahead of the construction. There was a Silverado about five car lengths ahead of me in the center lane, and the Pilot was about four car lengths behind me in the center lane. For some reason, one only known to the pilot of the Pilot, they, the Pilot, decided to speed up as I moved over as opposed to

A. keep traveling the same speed

Or

B. slow down (gasp!)

Just as I was in the lane, the Silverado slammed on their brakes, hard, to a complete stop, forcing me to do the same. As a result, I came to rest about three feet from the truck, only to hear the Pilot skidding behind me. The Honda ended up being so far up my ***, I couldn’t even see the hood; only half the windshield. They had about 6 inches of room to spare, which, when you’re traveling at 45 MPH, is not a lot.

One good thing about this is you always learn something. This time, I just should have slowed down, letting a majority of the traffic pass before moving over. So, it wasn’t entirely the Pilot’s fault, but they should not have sped up as I moved over either. However, that’s just one of the quirks AZ drivers have; if you want to change lanes, they’ll speed up and take the space just so you can’t move over in front of them. If anyone ever comes through AZ, keep that in mind....
