JEEP HISTORY
My first vehicle was a 1987 Jeep Wrangler
with the 258 I6, 5 speed manual, and Dana
35 rear and Dana 30 front Trac-lok 3.73s.
I had to part ways with it and bought a
car that got better gas mileage. I
later bought a 1986 Jeep Cherokee Pioneer
4x4 with the 2.5L 150 I4 and 3 speed
automatic with Dana 35 rear and Dana 30
front 4.10s. I missed having a Jeep and
was going to build the Cherokee, but sold
it and started looking for a CJ. I
found my 1986 Jeep CJ-7 on craigslist and
called the seller the night it was listed,
went and looked at it the next day,
haggled with him, and drove it home the
day after. It was in rough shape, but it
was solid and rust-free for the most part.
Luckily it was in no need of a frame-off
at all. It has the 258 I6, T176 4 speed,
and AMC 20 rear and Dana 30 front 3.31s
with Dana 300 transfer case. I went
through stripping it down to the bare
metal, primed it myself, and had it
professionally painted. Just about
everything inside, outside, and under the
hood is brand new, or will be brand new.
It's a restoration that will never
end. And I just recently picked up a
1961 Willys 4x4 Station Wagon that's in
near mint condition inside and out. I'm
just going to be doing a little rust
fixing and then she'll be practically in
museum condition! This project is going to
go a little slower, however due to other
things I have going on right now.
