I fell in love with the XJ when I was a
little kid. I was in need of a new
vehicle this year when my Ford started to
fall apart, and I thought I would take a
look at Jeeps. While I suppose I could
have bought a used XJ, instead in February
I picked up something with similar
styling, an MK74 Patriot with FD-II. It
may not be as tough as an XJ, but I don't
do serious enough off-roading to worry too
much about that, and the MK gets much
better gas mileage.

MKs are obviously meeting the needs of quite a few
people. Sales records for May were released a couple
of weeks ago, and the Patriot came in second just
behind the Wrangler. When one looks at the platform
sales, MKs are actually exceeding the JK. Sales over
the past three months are the following:
MK 32,865
JK 26,548
WK 21,748
KK 20,236
XK 8,118
The MKs clearly aren't going to be the death of Jeep,
as some have claimed. While all other platforms are
continuing to see sales declines, the Patriot rises
month after month. It looks like the MKs are the
future of Jeep....
