JEEP HISTORY
We've almost always had an XJ in the
family. I grew up riding the back seat of
a 1987 Cherokee, 2.5 4 banger 5 speed 4x4.
It was in the family until I was 10 years
old and had 260,000 miles on the clock
when it was sideswiped by a Saturn and
totaled. It was soon replaced by a 1998
Cherokee Sport 4.0 AW4 4x4. This XJ was
in the family for about 5 years until my
brother and I out grew the back seat and
it proved itself too small to tow our
giant travel trailer up any sort of hill
without overheating. It was replaced in
2002 by a 2001 Ford F-250. A few years
went by and I moved to Colorado for
college. After my first year, I knew I
needed a reliable 4x4 to explore the San
Juan mountains. I looked at a few
vehicles and then settled on a 1999 Jeep
Cherokee SE, 4.0, AW4 np321. Picked it up
for $2200 with 118,000 on the clock. I
daily drove and wheeled this XJ for about
5 years. It taught me alot about XJ's and
re-instilled the love of Jeeps I had as a
kid. I truly loved that XJ and still miss
it to this day. Due to the rough economy
and the numerous repairs it would have
needed to keep it as DD, I had to let it
go. It was replaced by my current DD, a
bone stock 2006 Ford Fusion 5-speed 4
banger. And now, I'm finally gainfully
employed again and have bought the fourth
XJ to be in my family, a 1989 Cherokee
Laredo, renix 4.0, 5-speed, np231 with
factory skids! Picked it up for $1000
with 204,000 miles on the clock and
various issues that you would expect from
a 22 year Jeep. Hope to have this XJ
ready to take to Moab by April next year.
