JEEP HISTORY
This is my second jeep, I previously owned
an 87 jeep wrangler. I bought this 1996
jeep grand cherokee limited with the 318
motor in 2005. The cherokee had 217,000
miles at the time of purchase, the
vechicle had made several trips from AK to
NV. My jeep just recently hit the 250,000
mark and the 318 motor has plenty of life
left. I know the previous owner and some
of work that had been done. The tranny
was rebuilt at about 160,000 miles and it
had some electrical issues. I purchased
this vechicle for seven hundred fifty
dollars. It wouldn't start at first, a
new battery got it running but it was
still running rough. After a complete
tune up, the motor was running great. I
had a new catalytic converter and muffle
installed at a local muffler shop.
Shortly after purchasing the vechicle I
started having electrical issues. My rig
would just stall and die occassionally or
not start occassionally. I took it to a
excellent local mechanic, he fixed the
problem( I can't remember exactly but some
type of sensor?) and I have not had any
electrical problems since. The work which
I personally have done is a new starter,
alternator brushes, water pump, timing
cover gasket, new brake pads and rotors,
block heater, miscellaneous repairs and
rountine service and maintenance. Two days
ago I fixed leaky transmission cooler
lines, so far so good no more leaks. My
next project will be leaky power steering
lines. I live in Alaska, in January 2012
we had one of the coldest months in over
60 years. Temperatures rarely got above
zero for most of the month and dipped as
low as -36. This weather created many of
my recent leaks, extreme temperatures
whether hot or cold affect your vechicle.
This vechicle is an every day driver right
now, but only live two miles from work.
Eventually I would like to purchase a
newer dodge truck and turn my jeep into an
off road monster.
