I started with a 1999 Jeep Wrangler SE 5
speed. I bought it new for $15,000. I
drove it stock for about 40,000 miles. I
then bought some 30x9.50-15 General MT's
and drove it like that for another couple
of years. I bought a RE 2" BB and
came across a deal on some used 31's and a
set of American Racing AR-23's. The 31's
turned out to be junk and I bought a set
of 32x11.50-15 Dunlop Rover MT's. They
were a great tire. Shortly after buying
the 32's, I bought a set of OME 2.5"
springs, regeared to 4.88's and put a Lock
Rite in the rear axle. The 4.88's and
32's were awesome. I drove it like that
for a year and then bought a used set of
RE 3.5" springs. They were very
stiff and severely limited my down travel
with the stock arms. I also got a set of
33x12.50 Goodyear MT/R's. After a year of
the RE springs, I sold them and bought
another set of OME springs. Once my TJ
was paid off (it was a lease!!!), I cut
the front fenders off and tube fendered
it. The MT/R's wore out and I bought a
set of ProComp X-Terrains (33's). At this
point, I was working a lot and most of the
local trails were being closed and the
Jeep sat. I drove it 2,500 miles in two
years. I sold it in 2005 after not
driving it for quite a while.
I
bought a 1997 Toyota 4Runner to replace
the TJ. It's been a nice rig and does
everything I want it to do off-road. I
put about 30,000 miles on it in the two
years I've owned it. Something was
missing though and earlier this year, I
started looking for an Unlimited.
I
came across my Rubicon Unlimited at a Car
Max. It had 1,500 miles on it and was in
perfect condition. I bought it and have
been loving it ever since.
