JEEP HISTORY
My uncle worked in the Brampton, Ontario,
Canada AMC plant and I got to see the
first Eagle (it was a modified Hornet or
Gremlin with round headlights) but I was
more interested in the AMXs at the time.
I moved to the US in '95 and helped a
neighbor fix the 904 in her AMC Concord. I
bought an '83 Eagle wagon for parts and
ended up fixing it up instead, but kept
killing the 998 automatics. I heard
that '80 up FSJs came with a 727, so I
bought an '83 Cherokee with 4.2L for
parts. I was disappointed to find out it
had a 999 (which is stronger than the 998
but I didn't know there was a difference
at the time) I pulled the motor from
my Eagle as I was planning to do an
upgrade and I stuck it in the FSJ. I
needed wheels right away for a job I was
starting so I started driving the FSJ and
learned to really like it. (I found frame
rot in the Eagle and gave up on it)
I've had numerous FSJs (and XJs and other
rigs) since.
