JEEP HISTORY
My first experience with Jeep was in the
late 80's with the Army. Jeeps were being
phased out for the HMMWV, but my unit
still had a few, so of course I just had
to drive one. A kids dream come true (for
those who grew up watching WW2 movies)! I
found them to be more reliable than the
early Humvee...it was a sad day when I had
to give it up. I tried to pick one up at
government auction a few years later, but
"collectors"...BASTARDS! My
roommate in college had a beat up CJ7 that
I would always borrow. It was pretty
reliable and could really take a beating.
I was really sold on Jeeps from then
on. Mostly drove "rice
burners" after college...only because
my girlfriends father worked for the
dealership. They were great on gas but
something was always missing. I finally
decided that "the call of the
trail" was too much too resist, so I
picked up a used Grand Cherokee Laredo.
Would've been a WJ, but it's not exactly a
family car for someone with 2 small
children. Been driving my ZJ for 8
years now...just changed the water pump,
fixed an oil leak, and will probably do
some body work later. For an 11 year old
car to have such minor problems?
