Ya dude, I'm Matt Merchant, the guy you met at Advanced Auto Parts on Agler a couple months back with the black YJ, I also think I passed you at the intersection of Hamilton/Johnstown a couple weeks ago haha. You told me to get on this forum, so here I am, what up? You ever roll with Pete? (owner of the huge tan YJ that always sits outside Auto Zone across the street)

I enjoyed reading your posts. I have been driving my Kaiser DJ-5A since 1980. At that time it was very bare. The roof had been cut off, it had no doors (things would fall out when driving) and no tailgate. It has bee a work in progress since 1980.
Many trips to junk yards got me a Jeep Tailgate. Next came the roll bar which enabled me to add a bikini top. Padded the roll-bar.
I took many trips to the mountains, desert's and the coast Hwy. I was very happy with how well it ran. The thing NEVER got hot even racing around a dry lake at 115 degrees Somebody gave me the doors and I made them fit.
I try to fix everything that goes wrong with this Jeep as quick as I can. I had a custom exhaust system made because the stock pipes were too low for off-road.
I just yesterday ordered the Service Manual from the manual. Cool huh? It took days of research to find a good used steering gearbox I could afford. New-like and rebuilds go for $300 to over $400, but I just got one for $150 including shipping.
My next major project is to make a removable "Woody" top for it. For the last 14 years I have been driving the Kaiser all year long in the worst winters Montana can dish out. I used to live in Michigan, so I know about your winters in Ohio. I live in the Rockies in the Northwest part of the state on one of the most deadly roads in the country. This stretch of US Hwy. 2 was on Dateline and I think we were number 4 most deadly. It is very beautiful here. Two movies were made here, "The River Wild" and "Always". Many great places to drive and camp to.
Well, back to work on the Jeep today. I'm putting on a new Steering wheel cover. Later Conan

alright glad i could help!

For tranny fluid, i used tecron AT4 non-synthetic, Just some Penziol 10w30 High Milage non-synthetic motor oil, and uhm Prestone anti-freeze is what i was using a 60/40 of coolant, and water mix.
I've been told and have notice my jeep runs better with Non-synthetics, plus the oil is less sludgy when i've done oil changes after using the non-synthetic oil.

Sadly my DJs are only 2wd. So i cant answer anything on the t-case. since i haven't worked on one for my tranny.

And if you want a stick than go for it. I would Love to make my DJ a stick. If you do go ahead and do that, let me know how much it cost you and how much work it was. Because ill Definitely look into doing it myself on mine. Good Luck!

Conan...BJS Sticker address. If you want a BJS sticker, you need to pass a test. The test is simple. First go to the BJS group site. Looking under the current threads...find the one that says "....sticker address..." Copy that down and put it on a SASE...send it to me...when I get it....and I see a note that says "thank you Birdog" you passed the test. And I send you a couple free BJS stickers. Birdog
