my first jeep &
my first
experience with automechanics

reason i bought it:
lost my dad
in '86 - he was a mechanical engineer who
loved to work on cars - always wanted me
to be there with him under the hood of
some wreck he was in the middle of
resurrecting - but as a little girl i was
always too busy playing guns in the woods
or whatnot - been sorry since i was 11
that i never took the opportunity to spend
more time with him, letting him teach me
what he knew about anything - use to call
me 'pixie' - the cb handle he gave me - he
was a good dad, he tried his best, anyway
- so after a long stint of going through
the wreck of my own marraige and family
life, years later, i buy this 1986 jeep xj
(which needed almost as much work done to
it as my life) - bought my first chilton
manual (with a kiss of good luck from
o'reilly) - last, but not least, felt i
had to get personalized plates which read:
'PIXIE' .. for my dad .. who has not been
seen, dead or alive, since 1986 .. i'm
sorry and i love you

when i first bot this beast, it barely ran and had rust
holes the size of my fist - my friends laughed and told
me it was a waste of money - but what do they know -
you should hear how much they spend at the mechanic
(now it's my turn to laugh!) - traveled all the way
across the state to pick her up and on the road back
hit a deer (o god no not my 'new' jeep!) - much to my
surprise the jeep didn't move an inch and not a scratch
on her! (wish i could say the same for the deer) - had
a 1989 mazda 626 before this and that's how she went
out - crumpled up like a tin can - still i get comments
on how i should trade in for some gas-efficient
4-banger - but no i say - not with what i've been thru
lol - my jeep makes me feel safe (and looks damn sexy
doing it!) - i'm not trading and that's final! (*stomps
foot) - ok well i think the rain's finally stopped -
time to go to work on those gaskets hehe - bound and
determined to prove once and for all that you CAN get a
jeep to stop leaking! - see you from underneath!!...
