For some reason, people I know that live in the area I
do have gotten into the habit of killing themselves.
Sometimes its because they are lonely, sometimes
desperate, sometimes broke. The most recent was a
fellow who was upset because his wife of many years was
leaving him. None of them seemed like the type to ever
do such a thing, but I guess mostly those that do
decide this is the way to go never are. I've
experienced desperation, loneliness, addiction &
heartache in my life, but never to the extent that I
was convinced killing myself was the best choice. To be
honest, I have considered it at different times in my
life but for me, there was always the hope that better
days would come again and that some way there would be
great fun to be had.
For many years my Dad has frowned upon me because I am
not one to live frugally and save for a rainy day. I've
spent most of my income not used for direct living
expenses over the years on toys. Snowmobiles, ATV's,
boats, Jeeps, cars, four wheel drive pickups . . . even
a PWC once just for the hell of it. These things kept
me busy, entertained me and in some strange way I've
always had a purpose (fixing, upgrading, acquiring more
of them). Because of the collection of toys around me,
people have always seemed to think that I'm well off.
This is really not the case, but I do work hard and
have been very fortunate to have that recognized and
rewarded over the years. Thing is, my 16 year old
daughter will be going to college soon and with the
recent economic situation (and some poor planning on my
part, my 401K is tanked) I've actually gotten myself
into a position now where some of my beloved toys will
have to go. I'll totally lose my behind when they go
and I will miss some of them, but there is one (well,
really two) that will just have to stay. Yes, fellow
Jeep enthusiasts, it is my Jeeps that will stay. My
daily driver 94 XJ and my pride and joy, my 78 Cherokee
mud truck named 'Billy Beater (short for Hillbilly
Beater). As long as I have these, I'll never run out of
stuff to fix or upgrades to dream up and I'll always
have a reason to keep on keepin on. Thanks AMC &
Chrysler, I needed that.:)...
