Mom & Dad bought me an '87 YJ for
$8,000 when I was 15 and knew nothing
about how to "do stuff to it" or
repair it.
Consequently, after a year
and $7,000 in repairs from me demolishing
the driveline (busted drive shafts,
snapped D30, leaf springs, grenaded NP231,
ruined 3 speed, etc etc etc) and
separately rear-ending someone in a Grand
Wagoneer, it was "promise never to go
off roading again or we're selling the
Jeep".
I could not lie about
that, so the jeep went bye bye, and I've
wanted another ever since then.
This
past April 2011, my wife gets her annual
bonus from work. I say honey, you've
earned it so blow it on whatever you want.
Well, much to my surprise (and delight),
she wants a '93 Jeep Wrangler with 113k
miles that just happens to have a
1.5" lift, new 2.5L & trimmings,
new ECU, new BFG AT 32s and brakes, nice
Nerf Bars, for some odd reason I will
likely never know an AX-15 instead of an
AX-5, and a whole bunch of soft top
stuff including a brand new never
installed full soft top. It was a farm
vehicle and owned by the same guy and well
maintained since 1996. What a gem!
I
didn't expect her to blow her money on
something I wanted too! Did I mention she
had $2,000 left over for upgrades?
So
now that I'm 29.6, hehe, I'm learning how
to work on it. And so far have made it
much more capable - Added another
2.5" of lift (total 4"), a
Detroit LSD In the D35, Rubicon Express
quick disconnects, 8 Hellas, a Warn, Nitro
Skyjackers, Jerked the carpet & Hurked
the tub, put in a nice stereo, onboard air
and a CB.
The trails here in AZ have
been a lot of fun so far, and we've just
gotten started!
