My dad had always wanted a jeep since the
70's and in 1998 he bought a used TJ which
is what i learned to drive on. Once i
graduated high school i saved enough for
my own and in 2001 bought a 1990 YJ. body
was pretty good, red paint was somewhat
faded and it was carberated. so i did the
typical to it that younger people do;
stereo, 2" body lift, 1" shackle
lift and 31 mud tires. we all had good
times in it but had really only scratched
the surface of the jeep bug. Spring of
2003 i was getting ready to graduate
college and had already landed a job in
Indy so i decided it would be a good time
to get a nicer jeep with fuel injection
for the long commutes. found a guy selling
a 1995 with 65,000 miles for $5,000.
SOLD!! i decided i was going to start to
do things right on it and got a 3"
Rough Country Lift that i put on over
spring break. kept the 31's from the old
jeep and just basically tried to do better
on maintence things to keep it a good
daily driver. then all my other friends
started to get the bug. most of them
bought CJ's and had them on 33's or bigger
rather quickly and kind of left me in the
dust. Well i got a better job in my home
town a couple years ago and decided i
would spend my new found cash flow on
catching up with them. custom bumpers, TJ
flares, 33's, 4.10 gears, OBA & other
odds and ends stuff. we all wheeled with
roughly the same set up for one summer and
had a really good time. then came the
winter build season and everyone left me
again! all of them 35's or bigger with
some sort of lockers, so thats where i
stand now, i not going to keep up this
time as it is still my daily driver and i
got to go where ever i wanted to go in the
jeep last year. (maybe an aussie locker
soon) but on the other hand it is just one
hit from a tree or rollover from becoming
my beater.
