ABOUT ME
My name is Saul Ortiz. I’m 20
years old; I was born and raised
in El Paso, Texas. Going into my
freshman year of high school, I
wanted nothing more than to play
football for the Cougars. The year
started off great on the JV team
until I was hit by a car while
riding my bicycle. I broke my
sixth vertebrae, had 14 staples in
my head, and broke my pinkie. By
the middle of my sophomore year I
had a recovered but was advised
against playing football. My
junior year I transferred to El
Paso Academy West and graduated
class of 2008. I decided to take a
semester off from school, which I
enjoyed, but soon realized if I
wanted to secure a good future for
myself I would have to further my
education. So, I’m working on
getting my Bachelors in Criminal
Justice. Currently, I work as a
Therapeutic riding instructor. I
teach disabled children and adults
how to groom, tack, and ride
horses. Also, I train and care for
11 horses. It’s by far the best
and most rewarding job I’ve ever
had. My favorite toy is my ’88
Jeep Wrangler YJ. I have put most
of my free time into fixing it up.
I have pretty much rebuilt
everything on it. You can consider
me a backyard mechanic. All the
labor that has been done to my
Jeep I’ve done myself. The events
in my life have made me who I am
today.
