JEEP HISTORY
My first Jeep was a 92 YJ 4.0L
(five-speed) that I bought in 1997 for
$5350. It only had 86k miles and was
really clean. Over the years I added new
bumpers, a Dave's Rack, Running Lights,
Under-the-dash A/C (what a joke!)I had a
3" body lift kit on it when I bought
it, and installed a 5" suspension
lift. I bought 33" Pro-Comp Mudders
(should have bought 35" instead).
For sound I had a 1,000 watt five-channel
Crossfire amp with 2 10" subs in a
Jeep Rocks Box in the trunk area, (2)
6" X 9" Yamaha two-ways sitting
on the rear fender deck, (2) 6 1/2"
Alpine two-ways with adjustable tweeters
in the soundbar, and (2) 6" X 8"
three-ways coming from the dash. I sold
it in Tennessee back in 2009 to a student
at UGA. Our next adventure into Jeeping
involved another Jeep Wrangler, but this
time it was a 2001 TJ w/4.0 L engine
(five-speed). We (My niece Ashley, and I)
bought it in July 2009 (I wanted a Jeep
with airbags for my niece who drives it
frequently). In December, we purchased a
set of used rims and tires from a 2009
Rubicon. We had to buy two sets of
spacers to change from 5 on 4.5 to 5 on 5.
They look great. In January 2010 I
installed another sound system (Kenwood
Head Unit Excelon -- awesome unit
bluetooth wireless, Ipod wireless, USB on
the front of the unit and 3.5mm stereo
jack), (2) 4" X 6" three-ways in
the dash, Alpines (2) 6" two-way with
movable tweeter in the sound bar and I'm
trying to concoct a way to add another
sound bar for the back two channels. And
of course, The Crossfire 1,000 watt
five-channel amplifier and the two
10" Rockford Fosgate 10" subs in
the Jeep Rocks Box. Next we added Go
Rhino nerf bars. We recently purchased an
almost new top (Bestop OEM), and we bought
two new seats (passenger & rear) to
replace the current ones. We've still got
a ways to go (suspension lift, better
bumpers), but we'll get there! UPDATE:
Went with a Brand New Bestop Sunrider.
Installed the frame (July, 2011) with my
niece. A couple of challenges BUT we
"got it done". The zippers on
the roll bar pads fell apart. We had to
cut the roll bar pad to get the new
brackets to work. Overall, it was great
installing this framework with my niece,
Ashley. Replaced the Goodyears and Rims,
with 2011 Sahara and Bridgestone Duelers
in March, 2011. Installed second sound bar
and disconnected dash speakers. Replaced
the rollbar padding and skins with
RealTree Camo. Also covered soundbars with
Realtree Camo. January 2011 - purchased
a 2006 TJ w/4.0L with automatic
transmission. Updates include: newer Moab
rims and 33" Nitto Terra Grappler
Tires. Added new front and rear bumpers
and sliders too.
