JEEP HISTORY
2006 Bought an '83 CJ-7 in good shape but
needing TLC. And so it
began: 2006 Replaced PO's Weber clone
carb with a fuel injection system from
EFIS Custom. Installed Alpine head unit
& Polk speakers. 2007 Upgraded
manual brakes to power brakes from the
YJ. 2008 Replaced Jeep locking hubs
with Warn. 2009 Replaced steering
column with unit from a '91
YJ. 2010 Blown head gasket presented
the opportunity to upgrade to a 4.0
head. Replace the half-assed EFIS
system with true Mopar
MPFI. 2011 Acquired and refinished a CJ
hard top and steel doors. 2012 Replaced
all steering components: ball joints, tie
rod ends, YJ suspension
conversion using OME springs.
Shimmed front axle and dropped transfer
1" to eliminate driveline
vibration. 2013 Sourced replacement
Sport Seats and I re-upholstered using
blue Haart cloth. Found a blue
rollbar pad/cover and center console and
installed blue seatbelts. Added
chrome Laredo wheels; modified Warn hubs
to accommodate center
caps. 2014 Re-geared the original 2.73
(automatic trans) to 3.54 front and rear
to put the power band where it
needed to be, and makes the MPFI run even
better. 2015 Did relay/dedicated ground
headlight hack. Worked so well I ran
grounds to everything. Re-wired
behind the dash and upgraded to LEDs in
the gauges. 2016 A visit to the
boneyard yielded a lucky find: half-doors!
Rebuilt and repainted. Also found
an AirAid intake to make things look and
work much better under the
hood. 2017 Replaced body and engine
mounts. Replaced Rubicon shocks
with Bilsteins - much
better! 2018 Replaced steering box with
H1 box and M.O.R.E. mounting bracket.
Replaced worn steering column bearing
with Wolf Engineering unit.
Addressed rust and did body repairs in
anticipation of new paint. 2019 Line-X
applied to interior. Repainted
Olympic White, applied new
"Renegade" graphics.
Upgraded dash with SpeedHut gauges.
New Kenwood marine head unit and Polk
marine front & rear speakers.
